Welcome to another Insecure Writer’s Support Group post. We are all about supporting each other.
This month’s co-hosts are J Lenni Dorner, Janet Alcorn, PJ Colando, Jenni Enzor, and Diane Burton, and we are talking about book worlds!
July 6 question – If you could live in any book world, which one would you choose?

Pern.
For me, it has to be a world with dragons.
Not that it’s a perfect place – far from it – but Pern was the first imaginary world I fell in love with, and 20+ years later it was the first book place I thought of that I’d like to live.
There are many other imaginary worlds containing dragons. Some are friendly, some not. In Pern, humans ‘imprint’ with dragons when they are born and share a telepathic connection with them, becoming Riders. Their main job then is to defend the planet from Thread, a deadly space organism that devastates the planet’s surface when it falls. MAJOR SPOILER HERE: Pern is a Science Fiction story, not fantasy. Dragons were bioengineered for their purpose!
That’s my second reason: science is advanced in Pern (or, at least, advances in leaps and bounds in later books from the initially feudal system at the beginning of Anne McCaffrey’s iconic series). There are jobs for anyone who wants one, whatever gender, as long as you have the skills and work hard. Music is a big part of Pern life, and the opportunities to travel (by dragon, ship, or maybe even spacecraft) are plentiful.
Maybe I’d still write there, or return to my first work, biology. A world with dragons in it sounds like an inspiring place to me. What other possibilities could exist when the imagination is set free — with science? 🙂
What about you? What book world would you love to live in and why? I’d love to hear about it!
And don’t forget to check out what other IWSG members are saying this month over at our blog hop.
PS: Shacklebound Books recently released Wyrms, an anthology of drabbles about dragons, and yours truly is included! Check it out for some short dragony tales, if you’re in the mood. I know I never tire of them. 🙂

I love reading about dragons, but I’m not sure I’d like to live in a world with them. Congrats on having your story released!

Hi,
I know I wouldn’t want to live in a dragon world, but to each his own. I do think it would be exciting.
Have a nice month,

I’m not usually a fan of dragons, but I would like to live in a world where travel is so easy and anyone can do a job as long as they work hard.
I’m intrigued that this is a sci fi with the dragons are based on science.

I’ve seen some wonderful art of dragon ‘riding’, it does look fun… And isn’t science fiction amazing? 🙂
